The Rolling Stones Rio Beach Concerts.
The Rolling Stones played one of the biggest gigs the world has ever seen, attracting over 1.5 million people to Rio's famous Copacabana Beach. Designer Mark Fisher commissioned Perry Scenic to build a series of huge brightly coloured kite shaped set pieces to be rigged on to a gigantic stage back wall. In collaboration with Brilliant Stages, the company developed the kite shapes making them easy to rig and construct on the beach after they had been flown across to Rio. The team worked intensively sewing together multiple pieces of waterproof fabric, with each Kite having to be lined with fibre glass rods in webbing pockets to ensure they maintained their shape throughout the performance. We created the perspective masterpiece Mark Fisher had envisaged with the audience being wowed by the set during the day right through to the evening as the party continued.
